چکیده

Actual flood mapping and quantification in an area provide valuable information for the stakeholder to prevent future losses. This study presents actual flash Al-Lith Watershed, Saudi Arabia. The is divided into two steps: first using remote sensing data, second volume calculation. Two Sentinel-1 images are processed map flood, i.e., image from 25 May 2018 (dry condition), 24 November (peak condition). SNAP software used step. During processing, selecting backscatter data representing arid region challenging. dB range value 7.23–14.22 believed represent flood. In GIS software, result converted polygon define boundary. boundary that overlaid with Digital Elevation Map (DEM) filled same elevation value. Focal Statistics neighborhood method three iterations generate surface inside raster contains depth derived by subtraction of DEM. Several steps carried out minimize overcalculation outside can be multiplication points each cell size area. Watershed on 155,507,439 m3. Validity checks performed comparing it other studies, shows number reliable.

GIS-Based Spatial Mapping of Flash Flood Hazard in Makkah City, Saudi Arabia

Flash floods occur periodically in Makkah city, Saudi Arabia, due to several factors including its rugged topography and geological structures. Hence, precise assessment of floods becomes a more vital demand in development planning. A GIS-based methodology has been developed for quantifying and spatially mapping the flood characteristics. The core of this new approach is integrating several top...

Long Lead Flood Simulation Using Downscaled GCM Data in Arid and Semi-arid Regions: A Case Study

Flood is one of the most calamitous natural disasters that causes extensive property and life damages across theworld. It however, could be a blessing due to its special natural water resources recharging value. By simulating themagnitude of probable floods considering the anthropogenic and natural effects and implementing contingency plans, their damages could be reduced. In this paper, the Gen...

A Conceptual Flash Flood Early Warning System for Africa, Based on Terrestrial Microwave Links and Flash Flood Guidance

A conceptual flash flood early warning system for developing countries is described. The system uses rainfall intensity data from terrestrial microwave communication links and the geostationary Meteosat Second Generation satellite, i.e., two systems that are already in place and operational. Flash flood early warnings are based on a combination of the Flash Flood Guidance method and a hydrologi...
